Fontdouce, 9 centuries of eventful history
From the very discreet monastery at the start, to the powerful abbey that has obtained the title of Royal Abbey, the history of this place has not been one long calm river. Indeed, it has been punctuated by the Wars of Religion and the Revolution! Neither have the last 50 years, which have revealed many surprises and have led this monument to transform and reinvent itself.
A cultural circuit to follow at your own pace
With the help of a booklet given to you at the reception, you move around the site at your own pace and cross the magnificent Gothic chapter house, the Romanesque chapels, the parlour, the cellar and while enjoying the calm of the environment disturbed only by the hissing water and birdsongs .
