Tree climbing

Discover tree climbing activities in magnificent surroundings in the Charente-Maritime region between Cognac and Saintes! Parc Aventure de Fontdouce’s tree climbing courses are set in a vast wood of hundred-year-old oaks, along a majestic green valley that adjoins the ancient abbey of Fontdouce, a listed building dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. The tree climbing activity at Fontdouce includes 3 children’s courses (accessible from age 3) , 10 adult and youth courses of varying heights from 2m to 15m and 2 giant zip lines, each 200 meters long, all equipped with a continuous lifeline, guaranteeing safety for all.

Routes to suit everyone

The park features 3 accrobranche courses for children aged 3 to 8, including a course consisting exclusively of zip lines reserved for children who are already self-sufficient. The two tree climbing courses accessible to the very young are located 1 metre above the ground, so that carers can easily intervene in the event of a blockage, or at least help the children along the way. In addition to these 3 courses, there’s a zip line reserved exclusively for children. And let’s not forget the net labyrinth in which little ones (aged 6 and over) love to get lost!

Are you a beginner embarking on a tree-climbing course for the first time? Don’t worry if you’re coming to Fontdouce, as you can start with easy courses between 1 and 3 metres off the ground. There are 3 courses, yellow, orange and green, which you can do as many times as you like, just long enough to familiarize yourself with the activity before moving on to the more challenging courses. These 3 courses are open to adults and children alike: to access the yellow and orange courses, the minimum height required is 1.10 metres; to access the green course, the minimum height required is 1.20 metres.

The 4 intermediate courses are designed for people who already have some experience of tree climbing. Located between 4 and 6 metres high, they are a little more technical and physical than the 3 easy courses. They are suitable for both adults and children, but require a minimum height of 1.30m. These accrobranche courses are blue, pink, purple and turquoise.

The 3 challenging courses are designed for advanced climbers. They are indeed relatively high, between 8 and 15 metres depending on the passage, and sometimes quite technical. It’s a good idea to warm up and test yourself by doing 1 or 2 other easier tree climbing courses before attempting one of these 3! These 3 courses are red, burgundy and black, black being the highest and burgundy the most technical. And if you black out in less than 5 minutes, you can apply for a seasonal job at Fontdouce Adventure Park!

And to round off a day of tree climbing at Fontdouce in style, enjoy the thrill of crossing the Fontdouce valley on our two giant zip lines, each 200 m long! And give yourself the chance to fly over the Parc Aventure site and enjoy a magnificent view of Fontdouce Abbey, located right next to the park!

Access to the giant zip lines is included in the “Tree climbing” activity, but is reserved for people over 1.30m tall.

100% safe from age 3

For the safest possible climbing experience, all the high ropes courses at the Parc Aventure de Fontdouce are equipped with a continuous lifeline: the user remains permanently attached to the course, and is unable to unhook thanks to the Vertical Trek hook. There’s no risk of falling, so you can concentrate on overcoming the obstacles and enjoying the feeling of freedom in the middle of the forest!

Unlimited duration

The advantage of the Fontdouce Adventure Park is that everyone can enjoy the tree-climbing courses for as long as we’re open: there’s no time limit on tree-climbing on our site. At the height of the season, you can arrive in the morning and set off immediately on your tree climbing adventure, take advantage of the picnic areas or our nature lounge at lunchtime, then continue the afternoon on the tree climbing (or on another activity). You can manage your time as you wish to take advantage of the site’s soothing surroundings and the diversity of the courses on offer.

Sensations guaranteed

Thanks to the diversity of the 13 tree climbing courses and the two large 200m zip lines, everyone can enjoy the thrills and excitement of the red and black courses, the speed of the 2 giant zip lines and the technical difficulty of the Bordeaux course. And to ensure that the less experienced can enjoy the experience just as much, ziplines are provided at the end of each tree climbing course, offering a little thrill even on the easiest courses. The density of the wood and the size of the hundred-year-old trees also generate pleasure for all our adventurers!

Frequently asked questions on the activity Tree climbing

We’ve put together a list of the most frequently asked questions about our business.  Tree climbing

At the Parc Aventure de Fontdouce, only closed-toe shoes (sneakers) are required to avoid injury on the accrobranche courses or at the end of the zip lines. Apart from that, no special equipment is required for tree climbing, but it is strongly recommended to wear pants; mini shorts, skirts or dresses are not recommended. Don’t forget to tie back long hair to avoid getting it caught in a zip line pulley!

Accompanying adults must be present on the ground under the accrobranche courses to supervise children under the age of 14, if they are not practising. Children over 14 can enter the park and play accrobranche without an adult.

No, you won’t be accompanied by an operator on the accrobanche courses; you can access the high-level courses on your own. Members of the Fontdouce Adventure Park team are nevertheless present on the ground beneath the courses to keep an eye on you, advise you and intervene in the event of difficulties to bring you back down to the ground if necessary.

Yes, the maximum weight for tree climbing at Fontdouce is 120 kilos.

No, you don’t have to do all the climbing courses at Fontdouce. On the other hand, it’s a good idea to tackle the accrobranche in order of increasing difficulty (easy, intermediate, difficult). So you can develop at your own pace, according to your desires and abilities. Each accrobranche course has around 10 workshops, so you can take regular breaks. You can also repeat the same routes several times.

Yes, dogs are allowed as long as they’re kept on a leash and their owners take care of any droppings! Dogs and their owners are allowed to roam under the tree courses, but must stay in the paths.
