Take your time to stroll around, discover the gardens and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the place, the landscape and the nearby surroundings. A much-appreciated break!

Fontdouce is also the story of a family who became owners of the property shortly after the French Revolution and transformed it into a vast agricultural estate, gradually turning to tourism and events from the 1970s onwards after several decades of extensive restoration work. It’s a sleeping beauty that this family of enthusiasts has succeeded in waking up little by little!
The Fontdouce site is a combination of a medieval complex and its natural surroundings of forests, vineyards and meadows, all nestled in the hollow of a small valley that gives it all its intimacy. The stream that runs through the bottom of the valley adds its freshness and gentleness to the setting, making it an ideal getaway for lovers of history and architecture, as well as nature, beauty and tranquillity.
Since 1111, the date of its foundation, the site has undergone radical transformations: starting with its development which, a century after it was built, led to the construction of a second Gothic-style monastery, adjoining the first Romanesque monastery. Then, between the visits of famous people, the granting of Royal Abbey status, the Wars of Religion and the Revolution, Fontdouce went through periods that left their mark on it, before finally fading into obscurity and gradually re-emerging in the 1970s.

Allow around 1 hour for a self-guided tour of Fontdouce Abbey. Other tours can last up to 2 hours.
You don’t need to book for self-guided tours; however, the site can be made private for certain events, so it’s best to find out in advance. Reservations are strongly recommended for all other types of visit (unusual, along the water, etc.).
Yes, Fontdouce Abbey can be discovered from the age of 3, thanks to the trail games on offer, which can be completed in the company of an adult. To find out more, contact the abbey reception directly. You can choose the treasure hunt that suits you best on the spot, based on the explanations you will be given.
Yes, you have the individual pass, which includes a discovery tour of the abbey (self-guided or through treasure hunts) and the tree climbing, as well as the Family Pass for families of 4 people, including 2 adults. Families of more than 4 people can add the individual pass. All these passes are sold online on the adventure park website.
Fontdouce Abbey is not completely accessible to pushchairs due to the presence of several staircases. It is therefore advisable to bring along everything you need to carry small children during a visit.

An incredible day. We were able to picnic on site, with several tables available. There’s a snack bar in the grounds. A wonderful, peaceful setting in the heart of nature, close to the pretty Fontdouce abbey. We’ll be back without hesitation. An exceptional site, with a very large car park and shaded spaces. The staff are very welcoming, attentive and friendly.
