The different types of team building

What makes a good team-building exercise? Quite simply, one that meets your objectives and suits your employees! With this information in mind, you can imagine all kinds of possible events. There are five main team-building themes that are sure to give you some ideas. Here they are:

Challenge-based team building

Your objectives are as follows: to bring your teams together, boost your employees’ competitive spirit and have a lot of fun. Team building challenges are the perfect way to achieve your goals. They often take the form of friendly competitions. Your colleagues will be divided into several teams and will compete against each other in various activities. These can be physical, mental or artistic – anything is possible. To motivate your teams, set up a points system and a reward for the winning team, and you will see them go the extra mile! This team building exercise will enable your employees to bond with their teammates, with whom they will have to cooperate in order to win the competition. Our activity, The Totem Odyssey, was created based on these three pillars: team cohesion, communication, and fun, of course!

Sports team building activities

It’s well known that sport brings people together. If you have sports enthusiasts in your team and you want them to push themselves and try a sport they’re not familiar with, then sports team building is the solution for you! Outdoor laser tag, bubble football, tree climbing… there are hundreds of activities that your colleagues may never have tried before and will be delighted to discover. As well as boosting morale with outdoor activities, you’ll be fostering mutual support and cooperation within the group. Great, isn’t it?

Unusual team building activities

For your team-building outing, you want to give your colleagues an immersive experience. An experience they cannot have at home and one they will probably remember for the rest of their lives. Various activities can fit into the ‘unusual’ theme, either because of the location in which they take place or the nature of the activity itself. For example, you could offer an escape game in a historic location. Your employees will race against the clock in teams while soaking up the beauty and history of these ancient buildings. You could also opt for an unusual tour. Fontdouce Abbey offers one during which you can discover this place steeped in history through the abbey’s secret underground passages. A word of advice: bring a torch and boots! You could also organise a Murder Party, for example, with costumed hosts for an immersive investigation full of twists and turns!

Discovery team building activities

For your seminar, you want to impress your colleagues. You want to introduce them to a place that you love or that you yourself have never visited. You don’t need to travel to the other side of the world to inspire your fellow explorers. There is bound to be a beautiful, unspoilt place just a few kilometres away that will surprise you. You can opt for a classic discovery activity, such as a guided tour of a city, or you can add a touch of the unusual by offering an out-of-the-ordinary means of transport. For example, a tour of the Cognac vineyards on electric scooters, or a boat trip to discover the unspoilt secrets of the Charente, or, for the more athletic, a canoe trip. Our region is full of incredible places to discover, and believe us, sharing a sense of wonder will only bring you closer together!

Educational team building activities

You want your teams to learn during their team-building trip. There are lots of activities that allow you to learn while having fun! You can simply organise quizzes on general knowledge, corporate culture or even humour, where everyone will enjoy the unusual information you provide. You can also opt for participatory and supportive training sessions where everyone will learn about themselves and their colleagues without judgement. Our partner Jean Marc Bonnet offers excellent training courses in this area, such as ‘Revealing your qualities and potential as a speaker’; ‘Developing your interpersonal skills through positive communication’ and ‘Optimising your time management and priorities’. In a relaxed atmosphere, this great optimist combines theatre and humour to convey a powerful message to all his students and enable them to reveal themselves individually and as a group!

As you can see, there are a multitude of possibilities when you are in charge of organising a team-building event. The key is to clearly define your objectives in advance and to call on the service providers that best meet your needs.
