You’ve probably already noticed them, dressed in orange in the woods of the Adventure Park. Our operators are at your service throughout your day of activities! But what does a typical day look like for a tree climbing operator at Fontdouce?
What does an operator do?
The work of a tree climbing operator is very comprehensive. Our team is not only there to rescue you from the trees in case of panic. They take care of you from the moment you arrive in the Fontdouce valley and work to ensure your safety even before you arrive.
Daily security tasks
Before the park opens each day (and therefore every day during peak season!), operators check each tree-top adventure course every morning. They check each piece of equipment to prevent accidents, also taking into account the speed of the zip lines depending on weather conditions (wind can make the arrival points of zip lines particularly dangerous, for example). They must also prepare the harnesses, arranging them so that customers have no difficulty putting them on. Managing and checking PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is also part of a tree-top adventure operator’s job. The condition of harnesses, carabiners and pulleys must be checked every day to ensure optimal safety throughout the season and to guarantee both enjoyment and thrills for every customer!

A team always at the service of its customers
A tree climbing operator is, above all, someone who cares about people. In a leisure facility, you need to be able to advise and inform each adventurer as best you can, with a great deal of kindness. Our team is responsible for briefing customers on safety rules, ensuring that everyone has understood the instructions. Each member of the team is required to do a lot of daily entertainment work. Encouraging and making the public smile is an important task. Our operators must also demonstrate teaching skills, particularly when we receive school groups or families with young children.
Requirements for a tree climbing operator
Firstly, to become an operator qualified to work on a tree-top adventure course, you must be trained. Future operators take a CQP OPAH, which is a Professional Qualification Certificate for High Rope Course Operators. This means that they are trained to climb trees to rescue people at height; at the end of this training, they are also able to conduct briefings and manage equipment. At Fontdouce, this training is provided by the park for all new operators. They are also trained in first aid through the PSC1 (Level 1 Civil Prevention and Rescue) course. Tree-top adventure operators must have highly developed observational skills in order to anticipate each situation as effectively as possible. They must also be physically fit enough to be able to intervene quickly during an evacuation at height. Finally, good communication skills and the ability to listen are essential. Effective communication with customers can reassure them and help to resolve any apprehensions or fears related to the stress of heights.

A multidisciplinary profile for a multi-activity park
The tree climbing operators at Fontdouce Adventure Park are not only in the woods and dedicated to tree climbing, they can also be found throughout the valley offering other activities. Whether it’s at the outdoor Laser Game field, the Archery Game field or the Bubble Football field, they are required to do a real job as entertainers. They are there to supervise you and make sure you have a good time! The same atmosphere applies to Team Building events, during which our supervisors are there to entertain you and get you pumped up! Each operator must be able to explain our other activities that our customers can enjoy independently, such as all-terrain scooters and digital rallies. Of course, each of these activities is explained in advance to the whole team, and our team leaders are responsible for training new recruits in how to entertain and supervise the public.
