The success of all-terrain electric scooters

The launch of all-terrain electric scooters at Fontdouce Adventure Park was a resounding success for its first season. This new offering aims to help visitors discover the landscapes around the park and their diversity, including forests, pastures and vineyards. There are three routes to choose from, ranging in length from one to three hours.

Wine tour

The first route, called ‘Parcours des Vignes’ (Vineyard Trail), is a one-hour loop that takes walkers through the cognac vineyards located in the Borderies terroir, one of the six grand cru areas for cognac production, along with Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fins Bois, Bons Bois and Bois Ordinaires. This hilly but not overly strenuous walk attracted 114 participants.

Escapade between woods and valleys

The second route, ‘Escapade entre bois et vallées’ (Escape between woods and valleys), is a much more challenging 1.5-hour loop that takes walkers on a thrilling journey, alternating between hills and plains and different landscapes, including woods, vineyards and water features. Hold on tight to your handlebars and watch out for falling branches in the woods! This route is the second most popular with our visitors, having attracted 105 people during the 2022 season.

The 13 fountains circuit

The last route is ‘The 13 Fountains Trail’, which follows roughly the same path as the hiking trail of the same name. This trail is much longer than the previous two and takes visitors past water sources, fountains, old wash houses and more. You can choose between a 2-hour or 3-hour walk. If you opt for the 3-hour walk, you can easily pack a picnic to enjoy near one of the many water features along the route, where you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside. This route is therefore divided into two time slots: for the 2-hour route, 34 people have booked, while for the 3-hour route, only 23 scooters have been booked.

How do departures by scooter work?

After booking the chosen route, visitors sign a contract and are asked to provide a deposit and proof of identity. Once the administrative side of things has been taken care of, they then scan the QR code for their chosen route. This QR code gives them access to the routes on a map created using Google My Maps (a branch of Google Maps). You must therefore activate your phone’s geolocation to be able to follow the route and use it like a GPS. As the routes form loops, the starting and finishing points are the same, i.e. the reception area of the Fontdouce Adventure Park.

Who’s going for a ride on an electric scooter?

What makes our electric all-terrain scooters so successful is the audience they appeal to. Indeed, a diverse and varied audience is won over by our scooters. First and foremost are families with teenagers who come to enjoy quality time together for an afternoon during school holidays or weekends.

There are also groups of teenage or adult friends who meet up after a long time and want to create sporting memories while having fun.

Then there are couples without children and senior couples who come to discover this activity they have never tried before. It is a truly new experience for them, and quite a challenge at that.

Finally, there are corporate groups, an outing among colleagues to promote team cohesion and get to know each other outside the office.

Changes for 2023

At present, Fontdouce Adventure Park only offers a total of five possible scooter departures. As this is relatively few, the park has decided to increase its fleet by adding ten new scooters for the 2023 season, which will increase capacity from five to fifteen simultaneous departures.
